py-stellar-base
py-stellar-base is a Python SDK for building Stellar applications, handling transaction construction, Horizon queries, and Soroban smart contracts. Used by SDF, Lobstr, and Trezor, it lowers entry barriers for developers. This Q2 2026 proposal funds Protocol 26 compatibility, SEP-46/47/48 support for contract metadata, and an AI coding agent skill.
py-stellar-base is a widely-used Python SDK for building Stellar applications. It provides core transaction building, Horizon API access, Soroban RPC support, and implementations of several Stellar Ecosystem Proposals. Trusted by major organizations including SDF, Lobstr, and Trezor, the SDK lowers barriers for developers entering the ecosystem.
In Q1 2026, the SDK shipped one release with security hardening fixes including XDR decoding vulnerabilities and DoS vector mitigation. The XDR code generator was migrated into the SDK itself and refactored, and SEP-51 (XDR-JSON) support was implemented and validated against Rust Stellar CLI.
For Q2 2026, the proposal requests $15,000 XLM for three deliverables: Protocol 26 compatibility and ongoing maintenance; SEP-46, SEP-47, and SEP-48 support to enable smart contract self-description and tooling interoperability; and publication of an AI coding agent skill compatible with Claude Code, Cursor, and other platforms to lower barriers for AI-assisted development.
