Stellar Development Foundation hosted a virtual roundtable on a new SEP (Stellar Ecosystem Proposal) for send-receive transactions, discussing technical standards for anchor-to-anchor cross-border payments, KYC requirements, and protocol design decisions with ecosystem participants from Tempo, SatoshiPay, and Kauri.
The SDF ecosystem team led a roundtable discussion on a proposed SEP for send-receive transactions, a new standard for direct payments between anchors in different regions. Participants from Tempo Money Transfer, SatoshiPay, and Kauri System discussed the protocol design, which builds on SEP-6 patterns but simplifies KYC handling by consolidating customer information into a single atomic request rather than using SEP-12. Key topics included whether SEP-12 remains necessary, handling of transaction errors and refunds, receiver KYC requirements, and support for cash-out scenarios where name corrections are needed. The group identified missing functionality around transaction status updates and error correction mechanisms, particularly for cash transactions where 3-5% of payments encounter name mismatches requiring manual intervention.
