Tomer from SDF presented Soroban, Stellar's new smart contracts platform built on WebAssembly and Rust. The talk covered Soroban's architecture, security tooling including a new Audit Bank and Certora partnership, and live demos of DeFi applications like Blend lending protocol and Beans app enabling cash-to-yield access.
Tomer Weller presented Soroban, Stellar's smart contracts platform launching on mainnet by end of 2023. Built on WebAssembly and Rust, Soroban addresses limitations of older EVM-based platforms through multi-dimensional fee metering, state expiration to prevent ledger bloat, and parallel transaction processing. The SDF announced the Soroban Audit Bank offering free audits to SCF projects, a partnership with Certora providing $600k in formal verification credits, and fuzzing tools built into the SDK. Live demos showed Blend, a peer-to-peer lending protocol by Script3, integrated with Beans app to enable users in emerging markets to deposit cash via MoneyGram and earn yield on stablecoins. Over 100 projects have received grants from the $100M adoption fund, with 40+ projects demoing at Meridian.
