Announcing...Stellar Protocol 15

Stellar is skipping Protocol 14 and upgrading the public network to Protocol 15 on November 23, 2020. The change addresses a rare bug discovered during testnet testing that could have caused validator crashes. Developers running Stellar Core or Horizon must install updated versions before the upgrade.

Lumen Loop's take

The Stellar Development Foundation announced it will skip Protocol 14 and instead upgrade the public network directly to Protocol 15 on November 23, 2020 at 1600 UTC. During testnet testing, SDF discovered that two specific transaction types could have caused validators to crash, prompting the decision to release the fix as a new protocol version rather than a patch. Protocol 15 is identical to Protocol 14 except for this critical fix. All validators running Stellar Core v15.0.0 and Horizon v1.11.0 must upgrade before the vote. SDK users who already installed Protocol 14 support need no changes. The testnet has been running Protocol 15 since October 20, 2020.
