The Future is Here: Upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04

Lumen Loop's take

The Stellar Development Foundation (SDF) announced that it is deprecating support for stellar-core packages on Ubuntu 18.04 to support the latest LTS release, Ubuntu 22.04, which ships with clang 12. The effort to maintain build and test systems for multiple clang versions was deemed too resource-intensive. Users unable to upgrade have alternatives: switching to the official SDF Docker image for continued long-term support, or manually compiling stellar-core, though C++ functionality not available on 18.04 may eventually break builds. SDF emphasized that dropping package support does not make it impossible to operate on Ubuntu 18.04, but will require additional user effort with limited engineering support. The foundation encouraged affected users to reach out via the Stellar Developers Discord for questions or concerns.
