At the 2025 International AIDS Society Conference in Kigali, Rwanda, organizers replaced cash-based stipend distribution with USDC stablecoin payments via Stellar Disbursement Platform and Decaf Wallet. The system processed 425 payments to 233 unique recipients from 50+ countries with 100% success rate, eliminating logistical complexity of transporting physical currency. Recipients could claim funds via secure email, verify identity in Decaf Wallet, and choose flexible withdrawal options including MoneyGram cash withdrawal, bank transfers, or Decaf Visa card spending. The implementation demonstrated how blockchain infrastructure modernizes global disbursements for NGOs and international organizations while improving accessibility for underbanked regions.
