SorobanDomains is upgrading to NFDs (Non-Fungible Domains) using the SEP-0050 NFT standard on Stellar's Soroban. A new Registry v2 removes collateral requirements in favor of yearly fees and adds Soroban Events for better indexing. Existing domain owners get 90 days to migrate for free before new registrations open.

SorobanDomains, one of the first public Soroban contracts, is evolving into a full NFT protocol compliant with SEP-0050, proposed by OpenZeppelin. The new Registry v2 eliminates collateral locking, introduces annual fees like other domain registries, and emits Soroban Events to help indexers track user domains easily. Original domain holders (OGs) can migrate to NFD tokens for free within 90 days of deployment, during which no new registrations of existing domains are allowed. NFDs are standard SEP-0050 NFTs, enabling seamless transfers, trading, and wallet compatibility as long as the domain hasn't expired. A Soroban Governor contract will manage governance and collect all fees, including leftover PSD from the asset distributor. Deployment is planned for this month after setting up the Governor.
