Stellar moves money across borders through a decentralized ledger, anchors, and smart contracts. Transactions settle in seconds for fractions of a cent. UNHCR and MoneyGram already use the network for humanitarian aid and remittances.

Stellar is a blockchain network designed to move money across borders faster and cheaper than traditional banks. The network settles transactions in three to five seconds using a decentralized ledger and Federated Byzantine Agreement consensus, charging a fraction of a cent per transaction and requiring no traditional bank account. Anchors—licensed financial institutions holding reserves and issuing digital tokens on Stellar—enable the system. A sender deposits currency with a US anchor, tokens are sent across Stellar to a recipient in the Philippines in seconds, and redeemed locally. Since February 2024, Soroban smart contracts add programmable financial logic. MoneyGram extended its partnership in April 2026 and launched MGUSD, a native stablecoin, on Stellar in June. The network has processed over 5.1 billion operations across 10.1 million accounts.
