Tomer from the Stellar Development Foundation announced Soroban, a Turing-complete smart contract platform native to Stellar, now live on FutureNet testnet. The SDF is allocating $100 million to support Soroban adoption and launched Sorobanathon First Light to reward developers building and providing feedback.
Tomer, tech strategist at the Stellar Development Foundation, presented Soroban, a smart contract platform built from the ground up for Stellar. The platform is designed with scalability, sensible developer experience, and reliable financial access in mind. Key features include a local sandbox for development, built-in contracts, Rust-based implementation with WebAssembly support, transaction footprints for parallel processing, optimized fee-gas model, and state archiving to address ledger bloat. Soroban is now live on FutureNet, an incentivized public testnet with multiple iterations planned before mainnet launch in Q2 2023. The SDF announced a $100 million reserve dedicated to Soroban adoption and introduced Sorobanathon First Light, a program rewarding developers who test Soroban and share feedback through code examples, tutorials, and GitHub issues.
