American Banker - US Bank partners with Stellar to test stablecoin

U.S. Bank completed the first live pilot of its USBDC stablecoin on Stellar, processing a cross-border payment between North America and Europe. Full compliance controls (minting, redemption, freezing, clawback) are integrated directly into the protocol and connected to the bank's core finance, risk, and operations systems.

Lumen Loop's take

U.S. Bank has completed a live pilot of its USBDC stablecoin on the Stellar blockchain, successfully processing a cross-border payment between North American and European entities. The partnership, initiated in late 2025 with Stellar and PwC, demonstrated that banks can integrate stablecoin operations and issuance directly into existing compliance, risk, and operations systems. USBDC performed the entire transaction lifecycle from initial minting through payment settlement to final redemption, with regulatory controls (account freezing, transaction clawback, compliance monitoring) managed at the protocol layer. The successful pilot validates Stellar's technical architecture for supporting institutional stablecoin deployment. Despite robust banking interest in stablecoin initiatives, few formal releases from traditional institutions have reached market. This test positions Stellar as infrastructure suitable for regulated financial institutions implementing cross-border payment strategies using digital currencies and stablecoins.
