The Stellar Development Foundation introduced Meridian Pay, a production-ready smart wallet built on Stellar Mainnet that launched at Meridian 2025 in Rio de Janeiro. The wallet uses passkey-based authentication, eliminating seed phrases and passwords while enabling seamless onchain transactions with zero user-facing fees.
At Meridian 2025, the Stellar Development Foundation unveiled Meridian Pay, a web-based smart wallet that simplifies blockchain onboarding through passkey authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, device PIN) instead of traditional seed phrases. The wallet combines three key components: a passkey-authenticated web wallet, backend services including the Stellar Disbursement Platform (SDP) for bulk wallet creation and the Wallet-Backend for fee sponsorship and transaction throughput, and custom smart contracts for wallet creation, recovery, NFT minting, and bundled transactions. Over 1,000 attendees at M25 used the wallet to claim NFTs, redeem event swag, and receive payments instantly with no transaction fees. The implementation leverages deterministic contract addresses, Merkle distributors for efficient bulk claims, and multicall contracts for bundled actions, all executed fully onchain while maintaining a Web2-like user experience.
