MoneyGram announced it will use Stellar blockchain to enable USDC stablecoin payments and near-real-time settlement for its customers, with rollout beginning this year and international expansion in 2022.

MoneyGram announced plans to integrate Stellar blockchain into its payment infrastructure, allowing customers to make payments with USDC stablecoin or settle incoming money as USDC while enabling near-real-time settlement of MoneyGram transfers. The solution will begin rolling out this year with international expansion planned for 2022. This marks MoneyGram's pivot to Stellar after previously partnering with Ripple on XRP-based foreign exchange solutions, a relationship that ended in 2021 following the SEC's lawsuit against Ripple alleging XRP is a security.
