The Stellar Development Foundation has unveiled Stellar Aid Assist, a new platform leveraging the Stellar blockchain to revolutionize humanitarian aid delivery. Powered by the Stellar Disbursement Platform backend system, it enables aid organizations to disburse cash to thousands of recipients instantly and transparently using USDC stablecoins. Recipients can hold digital dollars in mobile wallets and exchange them for local currency at MoneyGram locations in over 185 countries. The platform addresses critical challenges faced by displaced populations, including the 103 million forcibly displaced people globally as of mid-2022. UNHCR and the International Rescue Committee are already piloting the system to distribute relief payments in Ukraine, demonstrating real-world impact for vulnerable populations.
