As over 90 countries explore Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), the Stellar Development Foundation has released "Understanding CBDCs: a guidebook for regulators and policymakers" to help guide technology decisions. The guide was developed by a cross-functional SDF team with input from external organizations including the World Bank and Alliance for Financial Inclusion. CBDCs offer potential benefits such as reduced cash dependence, improved international payment efficiency, and programmability features. The guidebook addresses the complex design decisions and challenges policymakers must navigate as they digitize their monetary systems and shape the future global financial infrastructure.
