Soroban is Stellar's smart contract platform that integrates directly into the Stellar blockchain, offering deterministic execution, high performance, and security through WebAssembly and Rust. The platform features low transaction costs, a complete developer toolkit including CLI and sandbox environment, and enables building DeFi systems, asset tokenization, governance applications, gaming, and enterprise payment automation. Launched as a testnet in 2022 and integrated into Stellar Mainnet in phases, Soroban is now production-ready. It represents Stellar's strategic evolution from a payments-focused network to a comprehensive ecosystem for secure and efficient decentralized applications, positioning the network as a sustainable alternative to other smart contract platforms.
