Stellar Development Foundation announced Soroban, its native smart contracts platform, is now live on Futurenet testnet, alongside a $100M adoption fund to support developers building on the platform.

At Meridian conference, SDF announced two major milestones: Soroban smart contracts platform launched on Futurenet incentivized testnet, and creation of a $100M adoption fund for Soroban developers. Soroban was built to address gaps in existing smart contract platforms, prioritizing scalability through concurrent transaction execution, sensible developer experience with batteries-included tooling, and reliable access to Stellar's financial infrastructure. The platform uses Rust and WebAssembly, includes built-in contracts and local sandbox development, and features a tunable gas model and state archiving to prevent ledger bloat. Futurenet will iterate toward mainnet launch in H1 2023, with the inaugural Sorobanathon: First Light program rewarding developers for testing and sharing feedback.
