Stellar Development Foundation's Lisa Nestor discusses how USDC on Stellar enables fast, cheap cross-border payments and remittances, with transaction costs measured in fractions of a cent versus thousands on other networks.

In an interview with PYMNTS, Stellar Development Foundation Senior Director Lisa Nestor explains the vision for interoperable digital currencies on Stellar, highlighting USDC's role in enabling global financial access. Since USDC launched on Stellar in February 2021, integrations with Stably's on/off ramps and Wyre's savings API have created pathways for FinTechs to offer dollar-denominated services. Nestor emphasizes that Stellar's infrastructure solves a critical problem: while USDC transfers on Ethereum can cost thousands in fees, Stellar enables near-instant transfers for fractions of a cent, making remittances and cross-border payments practical for the first time. Collaborations with BitGo, Finclusive, and Wyre are expanding use cases around payments, savings, and settlement.
