KALE is a proof-of-teamwork farming game on Stellar that launched in November 2024 and became a major ecosystem phenomenon, driving significant smart contract activity, stress-testing the network for Protocol 23, and serving as a foundational project for composability experiments at HackMeridian 2025.

KALE is a community-driven farming game built on Stellar smart contracts that launched in November 2024 as an SDF-driven project by Tyler van der Hoeven. Inspired by the earlier FCM proof-of-work asset, KALE introduced proof-of-teamwork mining where farmers collaborate and receive KALE tokens based on their contributions. The project rapidly gained traction, generating over 100,000 contract invocations within weeks and spawning numerous spinoff projects like Kalefail. KALE was used to stress-test the network before Protocol 23 (Whisk) deployment, generating 150,000 transactions on Futurenet. The project demonstrated the value of on-chain experimentation for improving developer experience, surfacing technical issues, and attracting ecosystem talent. KALE's success led to its inclusion as a core composability project at HackMeridian 2025, where developers built layered applications on top of it.
