Stellar Development Foundation launched Stellar Aid Assist, a stablecoin-based platform enabling humanitarian organizations to distribute cash aid via USDC through the Stellar network. The platform eliminates intermediaries, reduces costs to near-zero, and provides recipients secure access to funds without bank accounts, currently piloted with Ukrainian refugees.

The Stellar Development Foundation created Stellar Aid Assist in response to the Ukraine crisis, a disbursement platform that allows aid organizations to send bulk stablecoin payments in USDC to disaster victims and refugees. The platform addresses critical gaps in humanitarian cash transfers: it eliminates physical cash handling risks, prevents corruption by middlemen, operates with near-zero transaction fees, and provides complete transparency on fund delivery. Recipients can access funds through the Vibrant wallet and exchange USDC for local currency at MoneyGram's 400,000 global agents without needing bank accounts. Currently piloted with UNHCR and the International Rescue Committee in Ukraine with fewer than 100 test users, the platform prioritizes ease of use for non-crypto users and maintains the humanitarian principle that recipients never pay fees.
