Stellar Weekly Roundup: week of Aug 7, 2026

Barça Mobile, the official mobile partner of FC Barcelona, announced a digital wallet built on the Stellar network in collaboration with Wirex and Crossmint. The same week, Marketnode announced it will offer on-chain access to select BNY Investments funds via Stellar, backed by a strategic SDF partnership. SDF also published the Protocol 28 "Adapter" announcement and upgrade guide, targeting testnet August 27 and mainnet vote September 16.

Consumer and Institutional Adoption

Barça Mobile's wallet brings an FC Barcelona-branded consumer payment product to Stellar, built on Wirex's self-custodial card infrastructure and Crossmint's wallet and stablecoin tooling. The announcement extends the network's consumer brand footprint alongside its institutional growth this year.

Marketnode's partnership with BNY Investments targets institutional and accredited investors, tokenizing investment products through a Stellar-native structure with SDF collaboration. The news arrives as Stellar's RWA tokenization volume approaches $4B, a figure SDF leadership cited at Stellar House São Paulo.

SODAX joined the Circle alliance, deepening USDC and settlement integration across 20+ blockchain networks. MoneyGram, Figure Markets, and Range formally became Tier 1 validators, expanding the consensus layer from 7 to 10 independent operators. A Stellar.org post explains the rationale: each institution's core business depends on the network's decentralized governance, not block rewards or staking yields.

São Paulo: Institutional Finance in Motion

Stellar House São Paulo generated a week of recorded sessions on tokenized assets and regulation. At the center: Franklin Templeton's Benji fund, which grew from under $600M to $2.5B on Stellar. At the Tokenized Assets in Production panel, the team detailed how recording the fund's shareholder ledger on-chain cut transaction costs from $75,000 to $1.13 per 50,000 transactions and enabled yield accrual by the second, 365 days a year. Collateral use cases across exchanges now drive institutional onboarding.

Itaú and B3 leadership joined a tokenization panel covering fixed-income priorities and B3's parallel tokenized custody model, which preserves corporate action rights inside existing regulatory guardrails. The event's closing keynote framed Brazil's regulatory environment as a consolidation mechanism: capital requirements reduce the field of competitors while enabling serious fintech players to compete with PIX, used by 76% of Brazilian adults daily.

Protocol 28: Adapter

SDF published an introduction and a developer upgrade guide for Protocol 28, named "Adapter." Three CAPs drive the upgrade: CAP-83 lets validators progress through consensus even when transaction data propagates slowly; CAP-85 enables a single operation to upgrade an entire fleet of contracts sharing executable code; CAP-86 adds sparse map host functions, making it safer to migrate contract data as schemas evolve.

Testnet upgrades August 27. Mainnet vote is September 16. Developers need to update SDKs; validators must install the new Stellar Core release and enable NTP synchronization. Separately, a commit to stellar-protocol clarified SEP-41 allowance behavior, with discussion continuing on GitHub. A Contract Verification Registry API thread is also active.

Builder Ecosystem: Summit, Grants, and Community Growth

The Stellar Builder Summit in São Paulo concluded its 8-day run, and the Stellar Developers Meeting on August 13 announced 12 winners across six tracks: confidential tokens and private payment wallets, enterprise compliance and RWA, anchors and regional ramps, emerging market yield, agentic payments, and CLI tooling. Nearly 190 developers competed in the second Builder Summit following the format introduced at Consensus Toronto.

GrantFox launched its Third Campaign August 15, opening contribution tracks for developers, builders, and UX contributors at contribute.grantfox.xyz. The Stellar Community Growth quadratic funding round has $50,000 in XLM matching for builder-focused events, with applications closing August 28 via Giveth. SCF #45 submission window closes August 17; the RFP track lists two open requests: a Stellar-compatible LayerZero DVN and an x402 Facilitator with Bazaar discovery support, per the SCF handbook.
