Exploring Privacy on Stellar with Boundless and Nethermind

Stellar Protocol 25 (Project X-Ray) launches native ZK primitives including BN254 and Poseidon, enabling production-ready privacy infrastructure. Boundless verifier and NetherMind's Groth16 implementation are now live on Stellar Mainnet, allowing developers to build configurable, compliant privacy applications.

Lumen Loop's take

Stellar Protocol 25, codenamed Project X-Ray, has shipped with native zero-knowledge cryptographic primitives baked directly into the protocol: BN254 pairing-friendly elliptic curve, BLS12381, and comprehensive Poseidon hash functions. Boundless Networks' permissionless proving network verifier is now live on Stellar Mainnet, alongside NetherMind's Groth16 verifier implementation, enabling fast and cheap proof verification. This infrastructure unlocks applications that are transparent by default but private when needed, with configurable privacy built for compliance. Developers can now write Rust programs, generate proofs via Boundless, and verify them on-chain seamlessly. The collaboration emphasizes backwards compatibility with existing institutional systems, positioning Stellar as the leading L1 for zero-knowledge applications while maintaining the blockchain's core transparency and auditability properties.
