Stellar Development Foundation announced Protocol 24, an emergency upgrade to fix a state archival bug discovered in Protocol 23. The bug affected 77 ledger entries out of 47 million; the fix will correct archived entries and unblock affected transactions. Mainnet vote scheduled for Wednesday.
The Stellar core team discovered a bug in Protocol 23 (WISC) affecting state archival where 77 ledger entries were archived with incorrect versions. Of these, 84 were restored to wrong values. The team contained the issue by issuing an emergency SLP and patching Stellar Core to quarantine affected entries. Protocol 24, proposed via Core Advancement Proposal 76, will fix archived entries by replacing corrupted values with correct ones and address a 3 lumen accounting discrepancy by moving burned lumens to the fee pool. Live entries that were incorrectly restored will not be addressed at protocol level, but affected protocols have confirmed they can remediate on their end. The upgrade requires validator vote scheduled for Wednesday, with testnet upgrade on Tuesday and software releases Monday. No SDK updates needed; only infrastructure running Stellar Core, Horizon, RPC, or Galaxy must upgrade.
