MetaMask now makes Stellar a default network, becoming the first major self-custodial platform to do so. Every MetaMask account automatically includes a Stellar address derived from the user's recovery phrase, enabling direct access to a blockchain processing $55.6B in annual payment volume and connecting users to real-world payment infrastructure.

MetaMask, with over 100 million users, made Stellar a default network on October 29, 2026. Every existing MetaMask account now includes a Stellar address automatically, derived from users' existing recovery phrases. This eliminates the friction of setting up a separate wallet to access Stellar's payments network, which processed $55.6 billion in payment volume in 2025, up 52% year-over-year. Stellar's five-second settlement and network fees of a fraction of a cent address a key pain point: the global average cost of sending $200 across borders is 6.36%, more than double the UN Sustainable Development Goal target of 3%. Users can hold and manage XLM, trustline assets, and Soroban tokens alongside assets on other networks, and swap between Stellar and other supported chains. The integration represents MetaMask's broader shift toward Open Money, a vision for one account to hold, send, spend, and trade money in both crypto and traditional forms. When payments infrastructure is embedded directly in a wallet users already trust, adoption of that infrastructure becomes automatic rather than optional.
