Stellar Aid Assist, a blockchain-based humanitarian aid disbursement solution built on Stellar, has successfully deployed with UNHCR to distribute $4.6 million in direct cash assistance to 2,500 households in Ukraine, with expansion planned to Argentina.
Stellar Aid Assist is a first-of-its-kind aid disbursement platform that leverages the Stellar blockchain to enable rapid, secure, and traceable delivery of humanitarian cash assistance. UNHCR has successfully deployed the solution in Ukraine, disbursing $4.6 million to support displaced and war-affected populations with critical needs including rent, food, medical care, and heating. The program is now scaling beyond Ukraine to Argentina to support refugee entrepreneurs while protecting against currency devaluation. Built as part of the UN Financial Gateway, Stellar Aid Assist demonstrates how blockchain technology can reduce costs and increase efficiency in aid delivery, ensuring more funds reach beneficiaries directly while maintaining full accountability and transparency.
